About this quiz

A medieval village was a small world where almost everyone had a part to play. Most people farmed, and many of the jobs in this quiz were done alongside farming rather than instead of it. Still, every village needed someone to fix the plough, someone to keep the oven going, someone who knew which plants were useful, and someone who could keep order when neighbors argued.

This quiz turns that world into a game. Each answer leans toward one of six jobs. At the end you get the job that fits your habits best, plus a few real facts about what that work involved. It is not a history exam and it does not claim to know what you would really have done in the year 1300.

How scoring works

  1. One point per answer

Each of the 18 questions has 4 answers, and each answer adds one point to one of the 6 results.

  2. Every result is fair

Every result can be reached the same number of times, so no result is favored.

  3. Most points wins

In a tie, the result that got a point most recently wins, so the same answers always give the same result.

Frequently asked questions

Is this quiz historically accurate?

The jobs are real, and the facts on each result page are well documented. The quiz itself is a game: real village life was mostly farming, and people often did several jobs at once.

Why is there no "peasant farmer" result?

Because nearly everyone farmed, it would win every time. The six results are the jobs a village could not run without, which makes for more interesting results.

What did a reeve actually do?

A reeve was usually a villager chosen to organize work on the lord's land for a year or so: making sure fields were ploughed, animals were tended and duties were done. The word "sheriff" comes from "shire reeve".

How is my result chosen?

Each answer gives one point to one of the 6 results. The result with the most points wins. If two results tie, the one that got a point most recently (from your later answers) wins, so the same answers always give the same result.

Do you save my answers or personal data?

No account and no tracking. Your answers and latest result stay in your own browser. If you use the free report offer, we keep a random browser ID and a scrambled version of your IP address for 30 days so each person gets one free report. Clearing your browser's site data removes your saved result.

Is this a scientific or psychological test?

No. It is a quiz made for fun, written to be enjoyable and shareable. It does not measure personality scientifically and it does not diagnose anything.

What is in the optional detailed report?

Your free result is complete. If you want more, the detailed report ($2.99, paid once) adds your full score mix across all 6 results, a deeper profile, three playful things to watch for and a mini challenge for the next 7 days.
